Overview

This course will provide a basic overview of the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) environ associated with road project delivery with emphasis on developing individual skills and organizational methodologies needed to deliver effective ESG strategies and plans. Using the new World Bank Environmental and Social Framework as a guide, the course will explore each of the ten Environmental and Social Standards developing insights on subject drivers and management tools useful for application in road project preparation and delivery. The course leans toward the public or owner view although all stakeholder perspectives are incorporated into the course material. The course is ideal for delegates working in planning, project management, and technical advisory with responsibilities for preparing or managing ESG impact assessments and plans.

Format

The lectures will be taught over a two-week period with live 2-hour on-line sessions held Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday. Upon completion of the training program, the IRF will administer an on-line knowledge test. IRF will work with each individual participant to ensure they pass the examination.

  • Investigate the techniques and approaches to ESG management used in successful projects as well as learn from projects that underperformed in their ESG approach
  • Build the technical skills necessary to prepare a project specific ESG management plan to support project planning, financing, and delivery

Senior Advisor, International Road Federation
Eric Cook

Eric Dean Cook, PE is a Senior Advisor and Lead Trainer for the International Road Federation. Since 2008, Eric has served as a trainer, speaker, moderator, facilitator and fellow colleague at numerous IRF workshops, panels, forums and trade visits. Eric is the current Chair for the IRF Committee on Alternative Finance & Procurement. He formerly served as a Member of the FIDIC Procurement Policy Sub-Committee and is a former Chair of the American Council of Engineering Companies International Committee. In practice, Eric is a registered professional civil engineer and has successfully supervised and managed over $1B in construction placement over his 30 year engineering career. He has a well-rounded stakeholder perspective having worked for such organizations as the West Virginia Department of Transportation, Louis Berger Group, Kanawha Stone Construction Company, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Eric has passed the FINRA Series 79 Investment Banking Representative Exam and holds a BS in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech, an MBA from the University of Manchester, and a MS in Finance from Indiana University.

Tatiana Compton leads the Sustainable Development and Finance practice at Phoenix Frontiers. Her professional field of practice is international development, social impact, environmental science, and sustainable communities. She has 15 years professional experience conducting field assessments and socio-environmental impact planning for development projects in the health and sustainable community sector.

Tatiana is a native English speaker with fluency in French. She holds a BA in History from the University of Birmingham and an MA in International Relations from Brunel University London.
