Overview
The Decade of Action is a United Nations sponsored program which has called upon governments around the world to implement measures that will lead to a 50% reduction in road traffic fatalities by 2020. Road authorities in more than 120 countries have made the commitment to meet this challenge. To accomplish this goal, road authorities must understand that a Decade of Action must be a decade of change to be effective — they cannot continue to do the same things and expect different results.
Members of the IRF are able to affect real change in road safety policies and programs around the world by showcasing cost-effective programs, sharing good practices with decision-makers and training front-line personnel.

Recognizing Outstanding Achievement in Accomplishing the U.N.’s Decade of Action Challenge
On May 11, 2011, the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020 was launched in more than 100 countries, with one goal: to prevent five million road traffic deaths globally by 2020. Responsible and accountable road safety leadership at national, regional, city levels will be vital to the success of this venture.
In 2012, recognizing the value of political leadership to drive road safety strategies, His Excellency Abdullah Al-Mogbel, Chairman of International Road Federation (IRF), instituted an annual IRF Find A Way Award that recognizes outstanding personal commitment to safer roads by national, regional, or city government. The award will be presented every year on the anniversary of the launch of the Decade of Action.
The winner of the IRF Find A Way Award will have demonstrated commitment to improve road safety through significant changes in government policy designed to reduce road fatalities and/or serious injuries on a country’s roads. These policies may be related any of the Five Pillars in the Decade of Action strategic plan. These pillars include motorist or pedestrian education, enforcement efforts, vehicle improvements, road improvements including use of best practices and state of the art technologies and/or emergency vehicle response methods.
Nominations are now being accepted for the 2016 IRF Find A Way Award. Submissions should include a short summary of the policy/action that clearly includes a description of the policy/action as well as the desired outcome.
Nominations should be sent to MichaelDreznes at mdreznes@IRF.global.
