IRF Presents Global Road Safety Award to Croatia Highways

ZAGREB, Croatia USA, August 31, 2021 – The International Road Federation (IRF Global) today presented its prestigious road safety accolade – known as the ‘Find a Way’ award – to Hrvatske autoceste d.o.o. a government-owned company charged with operating, maintaining and improving Croatia’s highway network.

The ‘Find a Way’ was instituted as part of the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety by IRF Chairman Eng. Abdullah Al-Mogbel in recognition of the value of political leadership in driving road traffic injury reduction strategies. Every year, the Award distinguishes outstanding commitment to safer roads by public agencies that fully embody the values of the “Safe System” approach.

“The road network is a shared space, and road agencies play a central role in enabling road users to interact in a safe and positive way through measures that mitigate the risk and consequences of road crashes” said IRF President & CEO C. Patrick Sankey. “The vision and policies enacted by Hrvatske autoceste d.o.o, have translated into a safer driving environment, as evidenced by improved road markings, traffic signs, roadside protection devices and tunnel safety projects. They have also resulted in safer working conditions for road contractors, as well as better informed motorists. Collectively, these measures represent a significant quality benchmark for other agencies”.

Receiving the award for Hrvatske autoceste, Mr. Boris Huzjan, President of the Management Board, noted “We are greatly honored that the International Road Federation has recognized our work so far, and this award acknowledges the efficiency of policy and strategy of the Republic of Croatia in traffic management on state-owned highways. The task of company Croatian Motorways is traffic management and motorway management, wherein traffic safety is the primary goal. The safety of users and all participants in motorway traffic has no alternative. This award is an incentive for us to make further improvements and innovations.”
