Abu Dhabi Moves Forward with IRF Proposal to Deliver Advanced Training & Education Programs
Undersecretary of Municipal Affairs, Ahmed Shareef, and Senior managers from Abu Dhabi’s Department of Transport (DOT) met with IRF Washington’s Executive VP to discuss their partnership with IRF, training needs, and events for 2012. Both agencies will continue working with the IRF Washington to provide outstanding training opportunities for their management and technical staff, and for contractors and consultants operating in the Emirate.
The Abu Dhabi DOT is leading an ambitious effort to develop manuals and guides for all standards relating to ground transport in the Emirate, as well as to set up a thorough evaluation process of existing standards and an adoption process for future standards. Some members of IRF Washington are providing direct consulting services to the DOT for this project. The IRF Washington provided advisory services to the Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA) for its participation on this project in 2009, and is currently in conversations with DOT to provide similar support in 2011 and beyond.
The IRF Washington organized the 2010 Middle East Regional Congress in Abu Dhabi under the auspices of DMA and with the support and participation of the Department of Municipal Affairs and the Abu Dhabi Police. A number of initiatives for 2012 have been launched by IRF Washington at the request of these important agencies, including a Sustainable Transport Summit scheduled for May 2012, and an ITS Summit scheduled for the Fall of 2012.
