Low-Volume Roads Engineering: Best Practices

The International Road Federation conducted a special custom training session on Low-Volume Roads Engineering for a senior government delegation representing Nigeria’s Rural Road Access and Mobility Project (RAMP). The training seminar focused on design issues, road standards, and geographic considerations when it comes to building and maintaining low-volume roads.

The training session also stressed the importance of applying best practices and methods to reduce the environmental impacts of roads with the one of the main issues being proper design and drainage. The delegation also conducted a field trip to some low volume road sites with the help of the Florida Department of Transportation. Upon conclusion of the training, participants completed a set of exercises to demonstrate the knowledge gained from the training session and were later provided with resource materials to use when they return to their duties back home.
